While probably not frequently enough, Ruth and I DO have the chance to occasionally leave the kids and head out for some adult conversation and food in Managua. We are thankful for this time together, and thankful that our neighbors babysit for this monthly event in exchange for piano lessons for their daughter! Sometimes we'll hit up a movie (yes, there are movie theaters in Nicaragua, and they are wonderfully air-conditioned) but we'll always go out for dinner. Sushi is the food of choice on date night; Ruth can't believe she just only recently discovered her love for this incredible food! And it is relatively cheap here. Tonight we went to a new Spanish (as in Spain) restaurant not too far from home. As usual, we had adventures in ordering food in a different language and ended up with a large plate of clams on accident. . .not our first choice (or second or third or fourth, even), but they actually were pretty good! When we got home a few minutes ago, we parked our car so the kids wouldn't see us, snuck in the dark house (see picture below), and are currently trying to get a few things done (i.e. write a blog post, print birthday invitations for Mae, send some emails) at home before ending our "quiet" time together! We can hear our kids at the Norman's house and they sound happy, but we should probably give our neighbors a break at some point soon! We're thankful for date nights, the gift of marriage, and for the prayers you say on our behalf.
